    xeromark,

    NO, but here's what I would have done, if I actually needed to transfer MPEG-2
    over to DV (can't see why, but then again. . . )

    * DVD2AVI: drag your mpeg-2 file into this app
    * make a .d2v file
    * make a .AVS file and IMPORT this .d2v into it
    * Import into Vdub and then Video/Compresion and select your DV codec, ie
    "Canopus Software DV Decompressor, or "MainConcept DV Codec 2.0.4"
    and do a "Save AVI" and save as a DV avi file.

    That's is.
    Please note, that AFAIK, these two DV codecs listed above are demo versions.
    I don't know of any full versions out their. But, be worned that they do
    incorporate a LOGO into their file, on every frame. But, if your footage is
    widescreen, NO PROBLEM!! Just use the crop/cut/boarders and voala - - clean
    DV file w/ NO LOGO!!

    Hope this helps, but maybe someone has a better solution or shorter one at that.

  3. thanks much!

    basically my digital8 camera has a problem with the firewire. I have tried numerous DV cards - the problem must be with my camera. So im just trying to do some analog capture. If you have any more suggestions for good analog capture cards let me know. In the meantime ill try out your technique.

    xeromark,

    * drag your mpeg-2 file into TMPG
    * click on "File/Output to file/AVI file"
    * give your file a NEW name, and then look to your far right on the
    ---------------------------------------
    [x] Video
    [x] Audio
    ---------------------------------------
    lines and you will see what looks like BUTTONs "[" and click the one on
    the [x] Video line. try and click it just tippy-touching-tippy-clicking it
    when you see it blink.
    * NOW, select your DV compression/codec

    He,he.... should work, but then again, may not be what you're expecting.
    But, give it a try anyways and REPORT back your results.
    Note, DV codec may not be visible or disabled, hense, may not work. But,
    if it doesn't work, then the method I laid out above in prev. post should
    work w/ editing features/filters, etc.

    Good luck!

    Or you could use Vidomi - I believe this will do what you need for MPEG2s, or use VDub for MPEG1s.
