  2. Lots of people use Neat for exactly that purpose. Try it!

  3. Just don't overdo it. A common mistake with beginners is they concentrate on removing all the noise -- and don't notice that also lost all the image detail. Fuzzy sweaters look like silk jackets, subtle wood grain disappears, people look like mannequins, etc.

  4. +1 Jagabo.

I've posted that same thing 100+ times in the past ten years. The famous mantra "less is more" most definitely applies.

People are so happy to see the noise disappear that they often don't realize how many other things are disappearing as well.

Very true. I do a compare multiple times just to make sure there is a minimal loss of detail.
And be prepared for long render times, too.

I do most of my denoising in AVISynth not only because I like the results better, but because Neat is extremely slow.

NeatVideo is like taking a meat clever to a surgery.
    Avisynth is far more precise.

If you insist on using it, know that the defaults are far too strong. Scale it way back.

  10. you can use neat in avisynth and should give you better results than vdub+neat imo (as far respect to the interlacing and chroma subsampling precision at least). the thing is you have to use vdub first to make the noise profile.
example (read neat's doc for more infos)
    ConvertToRGB32(matrix="Rec601",interlaced=true)
    LoadVirtualDubPlugin("C:\Program Files (x86)\VirtualDub\plugins\NeatVideo.vdf", "NeatVideo", 2) # Neatvideo version 3(gpu)
    NeatVideo("C:\Program Files (x86)\Neat Video for VirtualDub\PROFILES\myprofile.dnp", "C:\Program Files (x86)\Neat Video for VirtualDub\PRESETS\my profile.nfp", "1.0", "2", "1", "1" )
    convertyoyv12(interlaced=true)
