Do you have a Kaby Lake processor? If not, you can't decode 10bit.

Windows Media Player? I'm running Windows 7 so I don't know if it's still the default in Windows 10.

He may be talking about AVC while you are talking about HEVC?

With AVC 10 bit I believe you won't be successful with the Microsoft decoders. You can either use different player (MPC-HC, VLC ..) or in Windows Media Player try to use e.g. LAV Filters (Win7DSFilterTweaker can make WMP use them). For the "Movies & TV" app of Windows 10 - I don't know if it is possible to use external decoders. Maybe not - or at least not DirectShow (like LAV Filters).

  6. yes it is AVC sorry for misunderstanding

I know i can use different player but i like one from windows store (ACG Player) and so i was curious if it is there a way to force external decoders for windows app video players

Is that a Windows 10 thing? Because I've played 10 bit (both AVC and HEVC) on a rather old (Intel Iron Lake) laptop running Linux.

  8. Windows 10 comes with HEVC 10 bit decoding out-of-the-box (with certain hardware + drivers including Kaby Lake). But with alternative players you can play it on just about any PC with any Windows or Linux.
