Nearly all DTV converter boxes have both outgoing RF and composite video and stereo audio connections that the Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U could record from. I can't remember seeing any with S-Video out except for the CM-7000. (I still have one.)

I only recall seeing cable boxes with Firewire ports, but most service providers disabled Firewire out a few years ago.

Do what you want, but I should mention that there is better technology available now for recording OTA HDTV in HD than a D-VHS recorder.

I'm into vintage technology. This is more of a toy.

Edit: I was able to record SVHS video onto a regular VHS tape by drilling a hole in the plastic shell. Does this mean I can do the same for DVHS? Has anyone tried it?
