I've got a video, for some reasons it's rotated by 90 degree which makes it very difficult to watch.

I'd like to know if there is any simple way to rotate the video by 90 degree

I know it's possible to play it with VLC with rotation, but I want to permanently change the files, which makes it more convenient for other devices/

  2. I don't think there is any lossless way to do this, unlike JPEG where you can do rotation without altering the image data.

Pretty much any NLE can do this. AVISynth has the "turnright" and turnleft" commands. After you do the rotation, you then re-render the video, a process which does introduce some degradation.

Be aware that, because video is not square, you will end up with a very odd-shaped video, much like all the cell phone videos people take when they (stupidly) hold their phones vertical, rather than horizontal, when filming their video.

If your video has a Rotation Flag - and your player respect it - you can change the flag with something like Movie Rotator

But as above the only sure thing is to reencode. Xmedia Recode is an option.

  4. Thanks for that post. I did not know that there were video formats that had a rotation flag.
