width is not mod16, should I resize to mod16 before encoding, or not?

Pages and pages of off topic remarks about your methods. There is users that google for "stuff" and just fall into a trap of some cropping and resizing advises. We are all nerds in here basically. But sometimes needs to be said loud and clear, like wait, perhaps we should slow down and make some sense to it. Davejavu needs to fix DVD, good, go wild, if you do not need to do that just don't do that, you don't have to.

Yes this method for resizing (resize and crop) works perfectly for most of the time, legit sources, BD's, DVD's. I go to the store and get those DVD's, heck I do not remember buying DVD that could prevent me this workflow.

Cropping 8 pixels for regular 1920x1080 downsize regarding BD and you seam perfectly all right with it, but why would I do it for no reason. I had to go to discussion about concrete examples because otherwise we could not sort this.

If you clearly acknowledge that. I'd stop in a heartbeat.

If I miss some remark put inside of a long answer you have to pardon me, understand that not everyone reads those explanations, especially if he knows what are you trying to say, just say it plainly ad clearly, it gets really tiresome to read about that all over again., obviously it should not be a problem for you to be decisive and simple because English is not your fifth language or something. Why do you keep making stuff up? We're talking about resizing, so if I've written pages about resizing it's no more off topic than anything you've posted.

I never said I crop for no reason. It's astounding the way you ignore most of what I do post and then pretend I've said something else. If I'm re-encoding anyway I crop because there's no reason not to. It's a simple as that. You don't see a reason to crop, I don't see a reason not to, and you're yet to offer a valid reason why I shouldn't.

I really don't know what you want me to acknowledge. That there's nothing wrong with your workflow?? How many times do I have to say it? FFS. I've given you example after example of how to crop and resize without distorting the picture and you still won''t acknowledge that. I've uploaded resized pictures and asked if you can see any distortion several times now and you've ignored the question every time, then you complain about the discussion going nowhere. Astounding.

Your last paragraph pretty much sums it up. First you say you don't bother reading everything, then you complain about it being tiresome when things are repeated over and over.... well here's a hint for you.... it's even more tiresome having to repeat things over and over because you keep ignored them and then have to listen to you bitch about it.
Have you wondered how sick I am of hearing over and over how wonderful your workflow is and how it doesn't distort the picture when nobody has once claimed otherwise, and I'm certainly sick of hearing over and over and over and over that cropping and resizing distorts the picture when you were offered examples with zero or virtually zero aspect error a week ago. And so far, that's pretty much been your entire contribution to the discussion, aside from the complaining.

Then sure, DVD should be cut and resize manually if it is that sort of DVD. Fixing it. I told him that as soon as it was clear, he is entitled to do whatever he needs to, he had movie aspect ratio.

In your current version of reality, didn't you make an obvious reference to my cropping/resizing script when you claimed cropping small black bars is a mistake? If you hadn't, I probably would've ignored you like everyone else.
You could have chosen not to respond to my reply, or not claimed I've said your workflow was faulty when I haven't, and then you wouldn't still be arguing over nothing, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I don't recall you telling him anything about it being okay. You offered your usual speculation that somehow the internet might have messed it up, and cropping all the black would mess with the aspect ratio, even though he'd already made it clear in two previous posts it was a standard 720x576 PAL DVD and 702 was the width of the picture. It had roughly 9 pixels of black each side and he was trying to decide whether to under-crop, over-crop, and/or resize.
