  1. I have an mp4 file. It was recorded with a smartphone, while the smartphone was held in portrait mode. MPC-HC rotates it. SmartShare on LG smart tv doesn't rotate it.

I want to re-mux this mp4 file to mkv using mkvmerge, and use mkvmerge to rotate it, and then test if SmartShare rotates it.

Does mkvmerge have a flag for this? That allows specifying rotation?

  2. Matroska has no rotation flag.

  3. Old thread, but Google found it. And it doesn't have the right answer yet. Forgive me....

    I used
    ffmpeg -display_rotation 90 -i input.mp4 -codec copy output.mp4
    from
    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3937387/rotating-videos-with-ffmpeg

  4. You can use clever FFmpeg-GUI.
It can rotate videos (mp4 only), without recoding.
