  1. VirtualDub reports an error "Unable to read audio samples starting at 1452072 from the DV stream"

How do I know what frame is 1452072 so I can cut out the corrupt parts?

Converting DV and HDV to other formats can be a pain sometimes if there are corrupt audio data in the streams because the end result will be audio and video out of sync or loss of audio.

Edit: Looks like I got my answer. https://sound.stackexchange.com/questions/5022/how-many-samples-are-in-a-frame

  2. But even using the correct math, the actual corrupt frames are sometimes a few hundred frames behind from the calculated one. Basically the further the error occurs from the start of the video, the greater the error will be from the calculated number.

  3. Welp looks like the easier solution is to convert it to Type 2 DV file. Though this method doesn't work on lengthy files.

In VD you should be able to scrub close to frame 1452072 and use the keyboard arrow keys to step through the video to check for corrupt frames.
You didn't mention what version VD you are using, but VirtualDub FilterMod seems an improvement over the older VD programs.
But I don't have any DV files so I don't know if it can open them natively.

A 30fps video with that many frames would be over 13 hours long. The number reported by VDub is the audio sample, as noted.

  6. I'm using the latest version of VDub 1.10.4 32bit. Is there a better version?

Sorry, I misread your initial post.
I've been using VD Filter Mod. Don't know if it's any help, but it has a audio display: View>Audio Display.

That's actually a stock VDub feature.

Correct. However, in old VD audio display has a tendency to disappear (real pain to use!)
