This may seem like a stupid question and I have tried to search but it just showed about converting MKV to MP4 etc, I have an LG TV and some files work and others dont, the only difference I have seen is the ones that do are MKV version 2 and the ones that don't are MKV version 4, is there a way to make version 4 file into version 2 so it will play on my tv? I have uploaded the two different mediainfo files BB.TXT is the type that works on my tv and GOT.TXT is the one that doesn't. I really hope someone can give me the answer and I hope I am not just being simple, I am quite good with technology but video formats I find very confusing

    thank you in advanced

  2. Your second file is using HEVC video codec. Only newer TVs and then mostly 4K only support that codec. Probably needs complete re-encoding using e.g. VidCoder to AVC.

To answer the question about v4 to v2:
MKVToolNix GUI -> Preferences -> Default Values -> Default additional command line options -> "--clusters-in-meta-seek --disable-track-statistics-tags --engage no_cue_duration --engage no_cue_relative_position"
Then open the files you want to convert and click "Start Muxing" at the bottom. But this won't solve the HEVC<>AVC problem.

Thank you for the reply and the advice, I have downloaded vidcoder but how do I convert the file to AVC? all I can see is MKV or MP4

  4. Mkv should be fine (mp4 probably works as well...). In Encoding settings you can set "H.264 (x264)" for video but this is already the default anyways, I believe. For Audio Encoding set to codec to "Passthru" and allow for AAC and AC3 (depends on your player's capabilities). (You can "delete" the duplicate audio stream it wants to create.)

Thank you for all your help, wasn't expecting it to be so quick, you were right "H.264 (x264)" was the default and I have set audio to passthru, I will try to convert it and hope that it works, this porgram is much better than one I tried before it said it would take 3 hours to convert a 1 hour video so thank you for the recommendation!

Just converted the file as you suggested and it worked perfectly, I will be using VidCoder a lot from now on I think!

Hi, Interesting post. I have a SFR Box 4K and it is supposed to be able to read Matroska version 1 or 2. Having an upper version of Matroska to read I have tried to use Vidcoder. The videa is set as H.264 'x264), nothing to change but audio is set as ACC (Avcodec) and passthru is not proposed in the scrolling list, only ACC, AC3 or MP3. How do I set to passthru? BR nova6969

  11. I don't see why it shouldn't work. DTS pass-thru is supported in general. What version of VidCoder are you using?

I don't understand what you want. The file is v2. What do you want VidCoder to do?

Vidcoder 2.63 (x64) I agree with you, it should work. An other parameter should perturb my box.

Question. Could it be a problem with a filename inside the container? Does it exit a way to see them and to rename one if any "not recommended" character?

I know I'm few years late and I'm sorry but can anyone help me understand something.
I have LG UH603v and for some reason there is no problem with MKV v4 but v2 it is unable to play.
Is there possibility to do something relatively easy to play HDR file or I have to convert it?
    Quote Quote
  15. My problem is more complicated. because the codecs are the same in both files. There is only one difference. it's also a version. but my TV supports version 4. It does not support version 2. Or is there another reason? I ripped the version 2 file. I used Megui 2913 64bit.

or How can I make the mkv version 4 in Megui?

  16. My guess is you have a Samsung TV and the problem is not about v2 vs v4 but about a bug in Samsung TVs triggered in certain conditions with some x264 revisions. The x264 devs reverted the change as a workaround so newer x264 encodes should work again. Try updating MeGUI (maybe need to set update server to development server).

Yeah. my tv is samsung. Megui is the latest version but as you said I will try the developer server. Isn't it certain that this problem is not caused by the mkv version? So let's say that if I want to rip 4, not version 2, how can I change this?

  18. I did update. With development server. and boom! version 4 has become.
I tried it on TV. no problem. It is playing the video.
    Thank you so much.
