I have a 2 part question:
1 - What is the fatsest way to hardcode subtitles without degrading the quaility of the video?
2 - Is there any other way that I'm not aware of to play subtiles with an associated video file besides the following examples? mkv file containg the srt file, a video file with a matching srt file or hardcoding the subtiles permanently?
Thank You in advance for any help!!

Hardcoding requires re-encoding which inherently degrade the quality. Wheter you find it noticable or not is for you to decide.without degrading the quaility of the video?
2. Using an overlay player. My first Google hit:

Unless you re-encode losslessly and have lots of storage space to burn.
