  1. I received a Nero-created SVCD from a friend of mine which plays somewhat sporadically on my Apex 600A. Sometimes it will play, other times I have to open and close the disc tray several times to get it to work. I have read that SVCDs burned with Nero are problematic with the Apex players, so I want to re-burn the disc using VCDEasy.
The problem is, the MPEG-2 on the disc is actually a .dat file. Even if I convert it using the Cdxa2mpeg tool, I can't get it to burn properly. TMPGEnc won't even allow me to load the .dat or the converted MPEG-2. Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks, --f_cat ^_^

    Hi There,

You say that it's a DAT file, as far as i know SVCD's are not converted into DAT files when burnt to CDR. Looks like you have VCD there. i would try VCDGEAR to extract the DAT to mpeg.

But, if it is an SVCD like you say then try ISOBUSTER from www.isobuster.com.

Put the CDR into your DVD/CD rom drive and use ISOBUSTER to extract the DAT form the CDR.

    :P

  4. Woo-hoo! Isobuster did the trick, AND decreased the file size just enough for it to fit on an 80 MB CD. You have my undying gratitude!
Still don't know why it was a .dat file to begin with, though. VCDEasy said that it was a .dat file renamed to .mpg... since this is my first experience with SVCDs, I just assumed that that was the norm.
Ah, well.... I'm gonna go burn me a new & improved disc now....
    Thanks! -- F_cat ^_^
