Hopefully I'm in the right forum, because I have a huge problem with Vegas Pro. I'm working on a youtube project, and I'm trying to overlay a transparent gif over a jpg. However, the gif will not appear when it's over the jpg layer. If I put them on the same layer, it shows the gif, but it loses any transparency whatsoever and just has a black background.

What do you mean by "will not appear" ? Did you mean when you placed it on a track above the track with the jpg ? Is it "black" ? completely transparent ?

Did you try interpreting the alpha channel ? Right click the gif => properties => alpha channel . You might have to manually set it to something like straight

I mean I placed it on a video track above the jpg. And yes, I've already tried all the alpha channels and converting it into a png + trying all the alpha channels.

Also, by "will not appear" I mean it just shows the jpg.

  5. Maybe a problem with the gif ? Does it work ok in other programs, image editors, browsers ?

    What version of vegas ?

The gif is fine and works in all my other programs. I have the newest version of vegas, 14.0.

  7. It works fine here in vegas 13. Maybe a bug with 14 ?

Did you try testing another random transparent gif ?

But it's highly unlikely if you converted to RGBA PNG properly that it wouldn't work... and highly unlikely that a bug that big didn't get identified or not fixed already... Did you try rebooting? restarting vegas ?

I tried it with another gif, and it didn't work. However, apparently restarting Vegas and importing the png fixed the problem. Thanks for helping

  9. But it seems like pretty flaky/buggy behaviour ? Things like that should just work. Maybe blame Windows

Vegas can get pretty flaky. I suspect memory leaks. It has to be restarted from time to time.
