    G'day guys.

    I have re installed W8.1 keeping all data and programs/applications. I have now Windows.old folder taking 4.79GBs of disk. Can it be safely removed and not compromise the functionality of the OS?

    Yes, but preferably use the Disk Cleanup utility.
