The BBC Store is closing on November 1 2017. This means that everyone who has purchased a programme or a series of programmes will be fully refunded. However the Beeb promoted The Store as purchase and keep *forever* programmes from its archives. However after November these purchases will expire forever instead.

The streamed or downloaded files are DRM coded. And they must be viewed through a special decoding window which unscrambles them. This window does not allow screen scraping.

However the issues facing the many thousands of purchasers of programmes from The Store is how to capture the programmes as they play to really keep the programmes forever - as they were promised when purchased.

Does anyone know how The Store works - and more importantly how to keep and view the files after November 1?

    Many thanks

Surely if you have paid for AND downloaded the program you have also downloaded the DRM 'licence' which then allows you to view the program locally on your PC.

Beyond that I do not think that forum rules allow further discussion which would border upon DRM removal and commercial paid-for 'rentals'. Especially if you are being refunded for your 'purchase'.

Do you mean screen capture software like Debut Free? I thought screen capture had a 100.0% success rate to record a video. (Like putting a video camera in front of your computer to record the screen).
On a related topic, I hear that somebody bought a $50 Chinese Android device that is also a projector. On the back of the device is HDMI out. He connects that to a cheap Chinese HDMI recorder and that (he says) has a 100.0% success rate to capture any video, regardless of encryption (if the video plays on the Android projector, it can be recorded, he says. I wonder what is the actual truth of this. Does it actually work in all cases?

This is not a request for DRM removal. I already have that. I purchased the prog. / file quite legit. It doesn't download or play in The Store window but that's a technical issue - often reported BTW. What I am asking is does anyone know how the Store works since after November 1 no files purchased will play - period. Some have purchased hundreds if not thousands of files. The Beeb promised - as a marketing ploy too - that all files purchased will play for all time. I am sure that many are wondering the same.

So you are saying that you CAN NOT download ANY of the videos locally !!!

I have often been tempted to get some since these were programs not available elsewhere - lack of funds back then would not permit - yet would not consider not being able to actually download even with attached DRM

But what are you really asking ?. You appear to know how the store works. The site does say 'view' whereas I do believe it originally said 'download'. Chalk and cheese in my book.

But I guess that the beeb will make some of this content available elsewhere. After all there is money to be made form it.

    OP has time constraints.
But in the future, it should be noted that a capture card & HDCP stripper is essential for situations like his.
Playback on computer which has HDMI output ---> Record on another computer which has capture card (with HDMI input).
    Done.

I was in a situation like his months ago.
The learning curve is great, because you have to not only learn about the physical connection process...but also recording intricacies (encoder jargon, post processing, etc.).
But it's not insurmountable. This forum is a great help!
