  5. nope, this is ffmpeg filter - for avisynth exist plenty of filters where sharpen can be applied.

  6. As a general rule I don't like video that "looks sharpened", and sharpened noise looks terrible, so I apply it sparingly, but if I do sharpen it's pretty much always with LSFMod.

    I find the defaults work fine although I usually reduce the sharpening strength (50 to 75 rather than the default of 100). Personal taste. You'd need to de-interlace first. Try QTGMC followed by LSFMod.

    There is plenty filters in avisynth and usually they provide higher quality http://avisynth.nl/index.php/External_filters#Sharpeners
