I have a technical question about DVD-R's, that I can't find answers for anywhere.
Is it possible to get blank dual layered DVD-R's, such as the kinds used with DVD-ROM movies?
The kinds offered now are either single-side single-layer (4.7 GB), or double-side single-layer (9.4 GB). I am interested in single-side double-layer (also known as DVD-9), so one side can hold 9.4 GB.
Are companies planning to offer these in the future? Will existing DVD burners burn dual layered DVDs?
The specs for existing DVD technology can be found here: http://www.discusa.com/dvd/dvdspecs/dvdformats.htm
Thanks in advance,
Adam

It is technically very difficult to burn dual layers at the moment. Not sure if it ever will be possible for the DVD standard. There are higher capacacity disks on the way that use other methods of getting more info on a disk.

DVD9 disks aren't burned... they are manufactured. The probability of ever being able to burn a "DVD-R9" is nil, at best. If you can't transcode the files on a DVD9 down to less than 4.3GB, then you will need two disks (DVD-R) to complete the transfer.

SLK001, Yes I've heard this also(not sure if its 100% true) but let's not forget Mp3's are burnt, but cd's are manufactured, and the both can be listened to. also most commercial cd's are no where near 80 minutes like the ones we make on our computers. So please everyone lets keep are fingers crossed and hope that this will so become a reality. Technology is like the weather in New England If you wait a minute it wil change. I'm from Boston, MA Just throwing in my two cents Your FRiend ED P.S. My friend who works with computers daily once told me there is no way to download and burn a movie but now everytime I do, he asks me if he can watch the discs when I'm done. NEVER SAY NEVER
