Using flash USB drive to play video on Sony Blu Ray DVD player

"The tray is being operated or a disc is being read. Cannot perform this operation"

you need to change the default settings on your Sony Blu Ray player.

navigate to

Settings

System Settings

Switch fast startup mode off


this will change the startup time back to "normal" from "fast"

This gives the Blu ray player more time to read your USB flash drive, esp. larger flash drives,
which need more time to boot up and register in the memory of the Sony's processor.
