More info would be useful. Are you using a 3rd party burner s/w such as Nero ? Have you downloaded the latest drivers for XP? Have you downloaded the necesary codecs for the downloaded movies?

  3. I was using clone cd , but i will get whatever s/w might be compatible with win xp to use for this. i am not sure about the codecs. i can watch the d/l movies with media player and they work just fine. when i look up the file extension it just says movie file. i know this isnt a lot of info but im pretty new to all of this. i have tried some freeware/demo programs like easydivx, directdvd and dupdvd but they all have some aspi layer problem. either winxp doesnt use an aspi layer or its incompatible.

    thanks for the reply

There are various products to use but the most popoular are the freeware ones - TMPGenc for encoding the MPEG files and VCDEasy for burning the VCD on your writer.

I personally haven't used VCDEasy but I have read good things about it and it is FREE. I use TMPGEnc v.2.53 to encode my home movie files to MPEG (MPEG1s for VCD and MPEG2s for SVCD) and I burn with Nero version 5.5.8 which is one of the strongest burners on the market - you can download a demo version of Nero from www.ahead.de. There are links on this site for downloading TMPGenc and VCDEasy. I have just upgraded to XP Pro and Nero and TMPGenc work fine.

    I hope this helps.
