Hey guys im fairly new here, I just have a quick question I been trying to figure this out. I Have some mkv with dts audio that would like to convert to mp4 with ac3 audio but keeping same quality on the video,I know the sound is going to suffer but im ok with that is there a tool that i could use that would do that for me. If so can you guys point at me with the proper program or guide.

    thanks in advance.

  2. ffmpeg -i "input.mkv" -c:v copy -c:a ac3 "output.mp4"

There are also a lot of ffmpeg based GUIs in case you don't feel comfortable with the console. For example Xmedia Recode (set output format to mp4, set video codec to copy and audio codec to ac3.)

Also specific "re-multiplexers" which mostly avoid re-encoding, like BOX4.

In staxrip you would select 'Just Mux' to direct stream copy.

hey guys im really confuse i did tried xmedia encode but when i did the audio and put ac3 it made a 1gb file. and also box4 is preety good it gave me really good size mp4 but how can i make box4 give me the exact video quality on the mp4 and how would xmedia do me the exact video with the ac3 since on the option of video codec doesnt give me the option to copy

  6. BOX4 never changes video but it cannot convert audio to AC3, only AAC and MP3.

For Xmedia recode copy instead of convert:

  11. Click the "output" first. (I don't know why the GUI is this strange. It is confusing.)

Hmm... Maybe that wasn't the problem, then. I don't know, sorry. Maybe it's a bug.
