ffmpeg 1080p firefox add on youtube downloader

i had an ffmpeg 1080p converter firefox add on that downloaded the x264 stream and the audio codec and created an mp4 with the two streams

anyone know what i'm talking about?

has mozila just removed them from the add ons page... i haven't been able to find the add on

could set that i only wanted certain types of video to even prompt, and was just another download button in firefox

Not sure which one you mean ... the ones I prefer are – what you probably mean – "Complete YouTube Saver" (CYS - which uses ffmpeg to multiplex separate DASH streams after downloading, you can use current Zeranoe builds of ffmpeg), or "Video DownloadHelper" (which has another add-on for an even newer transmission format, which I avoided so far).

But for quirky cases, the stand-alone CLI tool "youtube-dl" is the most reliable (self-update with parameter "-U").

Complete YouTube Saver, I think that was it. It isn't recognizing any version of ffmpeg I download. Ive unzipped them into a folder and pointed the app to the ffmpeg folder but it does not recognise. all of the ffmpeg's did not have an exe, just bin files,. do i need an installed with ffmpeg.exe for the add on to recognise? help appreciated

youtube-dl is not a firefox addon. It is a stand-alone application used via the command-prompt or batch. It's very powerful.

And youtube-dl works also for high resolutions. But only if they are provided by the video, means, if the video had been uploaded with at least the desired resolution. Keep it up to date by occasionally executing "youtube-dl -U".

You won't be able to download 1080p from a video that has been uploaded as 720p only.

And I don't know where you tried to download ffmpeg from, so far. I recommended Zeranoe builds; use the static linking of your architecture (preferably 64 bit, if you have a 64 bit processor and 64 bit Windows).

You will just unpack this archive to any location (does not even need to be in C:\Program Files); then you have to point CYS manually to the location where you unpacked it, to its subdirectory ...\ffmpeg\bin which contains the ffmpeg.exe; you will select the folder containing it, not the EXE itself.

CYS can be confusing - unpack ffmpeg.exe (Zeranoe builds are fine) and point not to ffmpeg.exe itself but to folder where ffmpeg.exe is located.

the 32 bit version of ffmpeg gives ffmpeg.exe in the bin folders, pointed it to that and its downloading now..

Note that youtube-dl also needs ffmpeg to get the highest quality version.

Are you sure? In my experience, it could multiplex DASH results on its own?! Where is that documented?

In the official documentation. You should also see it in the log. If you didn't notice you probably have ffmpeg in PATH or something like that.
