  1. Hi, im about to buy a new am3+ mb and processor and the ram slot is ddr3, but with ddr3 ram still quite expensive i was wondering if you could backtrack to ddr2 memory and use that in a ddr3 slot, obviously it wont work aswell as ddr3 but would still do a job

Thanks in advance for any info

The RAM must be a supported type and speed. A motherboard which only accepts AM3+ CPUs can't use DDR2. AM3+ motherboards can use either DDR3 1066 or DDR3 1333 if the system is not overclocked. If you buy DDR3 1333, you may need to change a BIOS setting to use DDR3 1333 at its rated speed.

[Edit]DDR2 RAM won't work in a DDR3 slot. The voltage is different, and even if both have 240-pins, they have a different key notch location, and different pin-outs. Any motherboards which support both DDR2 and DDR3 have designated DDR2 slots and designated DDR3 slots.
