  1. a couple of days ago there was a thread about takeing a file that was in pro logic and converting it to 5.1....now as far as i know there isn't a way to do it yet but here's my question and thought....if i were to rip a DVD can the 5.1 audio remain the same if i were to put it onto a cdr??? in other words, encode the video then multiplex the original ripped audio and the new encoded video......just a thought.........thanks......

This has been discussed so many times on this forum its ridiculous. Just do a forum search.

In short, svcds support something called multichannel mpeg audio, which allows for 5.1 signals. You need to author the audio in linux in order for it to be compliant. You also need a Philips dvd player and a reciever that supports multichannel mpeg audio. You need either I-Author or Philips Svcd Designer (I think SVCD Designer can do it, not sure) to multiplex the svcd.

If you don't meet these requirements then give up on having the 5.1 signals in a vcd or svcd. Its simply not possible. Ali G WiKiT you would do well not to listen to Shizzzon because, yet again, it seems he has misinformed someone. That program is for creating DTS audio, which cannot be implemented in a vcd or svcd at all.

You could create a mini-dvd that used the original ac3 file, preserving the audio. Again just do a forum search if you want to give this a try but note that very very few dvd players will play this. You can check the dvd player compatibility list to see if your dvd player does.
