    My new TV records the channel you're watching onto a dedicated HDD but apparently you cannot open the recorded files on a PC/Mac subsequently. Is there a workaround so I can edit those files?

    They are encrypted. They can only be played back on the TV.

    Thanks. So no means, fair or foul, to access the recordings from the HDD?

    I've seen people who claim that they have done it via some crazily convoluted multiple step process but....the bigger the name (TV Brand), the more proprietary safeguards they have access to.
