Recorded on my Canon 7D MKII (7D Mark 2) - There was a problem with the lens, and the audio pulses at a steady rate. I've tried to clean it up in Vegas, Audition, and Audacity, and I can't seem to bring down the levels when it goes up or bring up the levels when it goes down. This is the only recording I have of a Christmas program performance. Anybody who can offer suggestions on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

  2. Just posting to let you know I had a look and -- I failed. The audio seems to be repeatedly hitting the limiter and recovering. I tried to null it out with the 'tremolo' (volume modulation) filter in Audacity (the frequency seems to be about 5 Hz) but could not get any improvement.

My best (and only remaining) idea is to find someone else who has recorded the audio.

Thank you very much for taking a look. I've searched everywhere I can think of. I find it hard to believe I'm the first one who has had this specific audio problem. I'm probably not using the correct terminology in my searches.

sorry but i looks like the mic on the camera is toast, try getting a rhode videomic pro add-on if you are going to use that camera for any more video. there are irregularly spaced dropouts as you can see in the screenshot where there are vertical black bands. and it's not from the limiter or auto level setting.

The mic on the camera is actually fine. I'm not sure what caused this short section to have this issue, but it sounds like I'm changing a switch at the beginning and end of the audio section where the issue occurred. That's why I figured it was a lens problem. I was probably turning autofocus or the stabilizer on/off on the lens. This was about halfway through the performance, which was about 1.5 hours. Audio after this slight hiccup was just fine. I actually do have a Rode Videomic, but the rubber stabilizers on the mount all broke, and I'm still working on getting replacements.

Thank you both for taking a look at it for me. I guess I'll mess with the levels to get it smoothed out as much as I can!

maybe try the magic lantern firmware? i've never had an audio problem using it on either my 60d or 70d.

smoothing isn't going to help, that section is so messed up it's unrecoverable and unusable.

While I do like ML, Magic Lantern firmware doesn't exist for the Canon 7D Mk II.
