MKV not displaying embedded subtitle PLEASE HELP

I have an mkv that I am using mkvtoolnix to embed an SSA except when I play the new embedded mkv the subtitles do not display. I have done this hundreds of times in the past with no problems but there is something funky with this particular mkv because when I embedded the same SSA with a different mkv movie, the subtitles displayed. Is there a way to cleanse or strip an mkv? I have no idea what it is about this particular mkv file but very frustrating.

You could try demux the video stream and audio streams with gMKVExtractGUI and then multiplex back everything.
