I just got shot by a drive-by. Did anyone catch the license plate of that ugly guy on stilts?

Oddly enough I just recently logged back in here recently wondering how long I'd been a member; gads I hate that I'm becoming one of those old people who see something dated 1995 and go "wasn't that just last year?"
EDIT: And I used "recently" twice in the space of one line, gads, I'm a geezer. -
Still hangin' on.

Yup, still check in from time to time. Here's my take. In a way, youtube, FB and the ilk ruined videohelp. It used to be that it was a fun challenge making digital video, from VCDs to SVCDs to DVDs to AVCHDs to Blu-rays, but now, with a few notably impressive exceptions, everybody just uploads a phone vid to youtube or FB.
Don't even get me started about vertical video. Even that battle has seemingly been lost.

I cannot remeber my prior login data, I was AWOL for a while, so I signed up with this account to get back on.

If I remembered correctly, I posted on this forum without any registration. I was looking for some solution to my video capture card. Some guy by the name of ... Smith replied me and recommended AVI_IO. Someone else suggest driver for my BT848 capture card. My video capture quality improved a lot. The countless flame wars were very enjoyable.

Been a long time since I've logged in. Usually looking for some conversion software or guide but will check the Off topic.

I stay logged in 24/7 but don't comment much anymore. At least nothing very meaningful unless I spot and report a spammer. It's just an open tab in my browser that I click on a couple of times a day. I'm still interested in specific topics having to do with HD caps, playback, Graphedit and stuff like that. I download some freeware programs as they get updated just to archive them to disc for myself. You never know when a tool or site will disappear. I've had that happen before. There is a lot of crap on DVD and BD discs that will never be used but that's nothing new I've been doing it since floppies and CDs. I have a couple of Hauppauge usb cap devices and a little used Avermedia version so I still capture tv shows as a pastime but rarely cut, edit or author anymore. A poor man's PVR of sorts. I've also gone back to playing with some of my old VB6 programs since I've been able to install it on Win7 and Win10 although I still use my trusty XP box to browse most of the time. Nothing too exciting.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -
mee too lol

Several memorable memories:
1. The member who asked the community if he should date a stripper. He was all weirded out when he found out what her job was, and acted like stripper=STD. I remember that all his of replies were along the lines of "are you stupid?" and he did. I think he eventually married her a year or two later.
2. naked-geek flipping out when caught rebadging the cheapest -- literally, THE cheapest (quality and price) -- Chinese fake AN32 coded junk. My offer to independently test the media was met with a wild-eyed insane response. That was a quick ban.
3. Gina. She was nuts.
4. tag-tearm testing hardware/encoders with GShelley61 (retiring broadcast engineer), SatStorm (tech/video journalist based in Greece), and BJ_M (worked at Iwerks). Fun times. But we all moved on, and they've not been here for many years now.
Some things you may not have known:
A. adam the "lawyer" (student, paralegal?), former mod that kamikazi'd himself as mod to attempt to ban me (WTF?). He believed in conspiracy theories, which made him a caricature of the typical backwards Texan. He was about as right-wing as could be, and considered law infallible -- unless he himself didn't like the law in question.
B. kwag, "creator" of the non-format "format" (KVCD) that was all bluster and BS. We rescued his dying site, and retained it for the old-school historical video info (Avisynth, TMPGEnc, etc), now found at http://www.digitalFAQ.com/archives (currently in read-only state).
C. The "Digital Dolphin" (aka Dolphinius Rex, aka LordDolphin -- FYI, the "lord" moniker came along after he crossed paths with me) -- and mostly posted at redflagdeals, cdfreaks, etc, but the VH reviews sections as well. Yet never the VH forum (too scared we'd call him on his nonsense, ala naked-geek?). He was a self-proclaimed "media expert" that was actually an overweight cosplaying college kid that collected anime (hence using blank DVDs) and worked at a comic book store. A decade or so earlier, and he literally could have been the design model for Comic Book Guy in the Simpsons. "Expert" at everything ... but not really. His "testing" was a few discs he begged or bought, never more than a dozen or so. Yet, sadly, many people believed his nonsense.Last edited by lordsmurf; 3rd Dec 2017 at 02:09.
