  1. Hello everyone,
I am submitting here a problem I am having with VirtualDubMob (1.10.5)
I am attempting to add subtitles to a video whose resolution is 720x480. The subtitles are not an issue, the problem is that the output video shows as though it is something like 640x480 (although the details of that file do say that it is 720x480). I am too much of a novice to understand what I am doing wrong. Do any one of you have any clue?

    Thank you so much.

  2. Are you using the ffmpeg source plugin? Be sure to turn off the aspect ratio adjustment in the extended options dialog -- via the "Ask for extended options..." tick mark on the Open Video File dialog.

  3. Though then the subtitles might be compressed/stretched (compared to the video) and he needs to take care of the SAR because the source appears to be anamorphic. To avoid that he could be to turn the option off as jagabo said and then use the resize filter to resize to 720x528 (assuming NTSC 4:3) and apply the subtitles after that. (Or create e.g. ASS subtitles that account for the anamorphic picture and leave the resolution as 720x480 but apply SAR in container/bitstream.)

  4. Thank you both for your replies. I appreciate it.
To answer jagabo, I don't think I am using ffmpeg, as everytime I launch VirtualDubMod there is an error box saying: "FFMPEG ERROR: Missing files\..." Is that a problem?
Secondly, I ticked the "Ask for extended options..." box, but nothing appears. Where exactly can I turn off the aspect ratio adjustment?
    Thank you so much.

  5. What type of file are you trying to open? AVI, MPG, MP4, MKV, etc. Are you using AviSynth to open the file? What codecs are used? What does MediaInfo say about the file. What does File -> File Information say about the file?

  7. It makes no sense for VirtualDub(mod) to display that 16:9 DAR video on-screen as 640x480 unless you have the display panes in VirtualDub forced to 4:3. Are you sure it's displaying at 640x480, not 720x480? If ffmpeg was correcting for the DAR it would display as ~854x480 in VirtualDub.

  8. Okay! You are absolutely right. I just figured out what the problem was. The actual size of the original video is 860x480. And the output video was really 720x480. Please forgive me for that. I just did a resize filter to force it to 860x480, and now it shows the same on the output video. The thing is the informations of the original file showed 720x480, which is why it confused me.
Well, thank you so much for your time.
