Hi,
I had some problems with this device and while trying to resolve the problem I formatted the drive in whole and I'm afraid I deleted the partition (or whatever it is) with the original factory software that makes it a media player. So, does anyone have it or have an idea how can I bring it back.
Thank you.![]()

Doesn't the LaCie site has some info how to restore everything?

I found
9.1. Reformatting: Windows Users
The process of formatting a drive on a computer running Windows
XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 consists of two steps: (1) installing
a signature on the drive, and (2) formatting the drive. These steps
will erase anything that is on the disk.
1. Connect the drive to the computer via the interface port.
2. Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
3. From the “Computer Management” window, select Disk Management
(located below the Storage group). See Fig. 99.
4. If the “Initialize and Convert Disk Wizard” window appears,
click Cancel.
5. Windows will list the Hard Disks that are installed on the system.
Locate the drive that is represented by the icon. Right-click
the icon and select Initialize.
6. In the box to the right that says Unallocated, right-click and
select New Partition…
7. On the first page of the “New Partition Wizard,” click Next. See
in http://www.lacie.com/files/lacie-content/manual/UM_LaCinClassic_HD_EN.pdf
Or did you try that? -
Thank you, but If you carefully read the instructions, they are for creating and formatting a new partition on the disk. So, no help.

the "media player" part of that product in not on the hard drive. it's in the firmware of the main board. if it doesn't boot it's dead. they never had a very good reputation and it's about 8 years old now....

Ahaaa... It crossed my mind at one moment that maybe the player software is not on the disk but on the board... Then it is dead
Any idea, suggestion or whatever to repair it?
"They never had a very good reputation"!? Noooooo - it is the worst device I have ever owned!!! And it was €165! Disaster! -
maybe take it apart and look at the mainboard, but unless you can see something obviously bad like leaking capacitors or a loose wire it's probably bin material. you can try pulling out the hard drive, if it uses standard connectors you could put it in a usb enclosure.

I already took it apart and there is no visible damage on the board. And yes, I already thought putting the disk in an enclosure and at least keep and use it as external backup disk.
