  1. Good day to all

I sent a photo to show how the "TVDownloader" program behaves when you paste a regular link from YouTube.

It seems to me that CDM is not supposed to show the final result where there is an error and what needs to be corrected

  2. I get the following message, which is new to me - not that it is DRM protected but rather stating that the requested format is not available...? While it does work with other programs on this website.
Anyone an idea how to resolve this ?

I keep a "basket" of over 10 of these downloader programs, including YT-DLP and a couple of its GUI front-ends. Some of these apps will cease working for awhile -- presumably due to countermeasures implemented by the sites, which will in turn require program updates to counteract -- and it becomes necessary to cycle through a few of the programs until one of them finally works on the desired target. That's been my recipe for success.

Much of it is payware. Some I have licenses for, like Tubedigger and the Allavsoft Downloader. (The latter gets offered as a promo freebie about twice a year, for a brief time, like just recently -- at SharewareOnSale.com. But I liked it enough to buy a perpetual license at steep discount, during an end of year holidays sale.) Other of the apps were obtained either from Sanet or from Appnee. Other top choices in this category include MediaHuman Downloader and VideoGet. Lately, I am also liking Masstube a lot. Some folks think quite highly of the VideoDownloadHelper browser extension, which I think has versions for Chrome and for FireFox -- at both free and paid ("Plus") tiers. If / When most else fails, some on a chat forum for hunting down rare and obscure films have mentioned a couple free website services they claim can haul the really troublesome videos in. One of those is (I think)
    https://en.loader.to/1/1080p-video-downloader.html
but I'd have to consult my notes to be sure.

As a very last resort, there are several capable screen recorders, but that would be at a noticeably diminished quality.

TubeDigger is arguably the most powerful, and is highly configurable. Also arguably more complex and for more advanced users. Its license terms are exceedingly generous.

Some of the YT-DLP GUI frontends, like NYT Downloader -- available at Github -- can also be very specifically configurable.

Another program that has drawn favorable comments is 4K Video Downloader, although I don't have any personal experience with it as yet.

I've seen that error before, not sure what the cause may have been.
I think your best bet is apt to be cycling through a few different downloaders, on you're problem video.
See my posts in this thread from June 21 for the ones I recommend and use.

  11. Best bet imo is to use the very latest version of yt-dlp (the output suggests the app uses yt-dlp in the background, but I haven't checked myself) and to not choosing specific formats for downloads from YT (again without knowing how the app makes the choice).

An explanation why it is not a good idea can be found in the yt-dlp issue tracker: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/13650#issuecomment-3043379481

  12. Since early this month downloading from GoPlay gives some issues. While providing correct username and password I nevertheless get now the following feedback/error message:
    'Nonetype' object is not subscriptable

Anyone an idea what this would mean and how to get around that ?
    Thanks.

  13. Another strange behaviour when trying to download a certain youtube-movie:

Do not have that with other YouTube movies.

Have you tried with an assortment of downloaders ? Some errors can be fairly unique to one or another, not necessarily reproduceable across them.

I've been getting video but NO sound on some YT downloads (in some cases I suspect this could be due to the use of not-so-widely supported audio codecs, like Opus), but when I cycle thru more of the downloaders I eventually manage to obtain the complete video.

  15. Hi Seeker47,
I've always been a fan of this TVDownloader - a pity it doesn't get the attention anymore like it used to - so you have one or two free and reliable YT-downloaders you can recommend ?

Actually, I have a nice basket of them available. Top of the list would be TubeDigger (arguably the most powerful of the lot), Allavsoft Downloader, Videoget by Nuclear Coffee, and MediaHuman YT Downloader, and Masstube. (These are all payware; the latter is I think for YT only.) Also in the basket, YT DLP, NYT Downloader, Ant Download Manager, 4K Video Downloader. And others. The last two of those are also payware . . . although some of these can occasionally be found as limited time promo freebies on sites like SharewareOnSale and BitsDuJour.

So you see, the arsenal is pretty well stocked here.

Someone on another forum -- one devoted to tracking down obscure, rare, and hard-to-find films -- replied to me: "Mubi has movies; Tubi has commercials."

I'm not sure, but think your best chances for that may be with TubeDigger, getting comfortable with it, and tinkering with some of the settings. The developer has also been pretty responsive to queries. (But you'd have to be a registered user.)

A separate issue is an ability to bypass the Age Restricted tag at YT. A couple of these claimed to be able to do that, but I've yet to see any convincing evidence. For that, my only success has been via intermediary-service sites like

    https://en.loader.to/1/1080p-video-downloader.html

These may employ some monetizing redirection shenanigans, so best approach there is to be using Firefox + the uBlock Origin extension, and kill any unwanted popups or irrelevant commercial screens / tabs, if any come up. Unfortunately, that crap on the part of some sites is becoming more and more common. (But if I'm feeling very charitable, I guess they gotta do what they gotta do to keep the lights on.)

[I'm many decades past any age restriction, btw. It's just that I take an extreme privacy stance, and resent having to jump thru any hoops in order to receive the content. A lot of those restricted tags are just due to political correctness or legalistic CYA.]
