These screenshots are from Vegas Movie Studio, since I don't have Vegas Pro. But if you're using Vegas Pro, it's only slightly different. The available output formats should be the same.

In Movie Studio, click on "Make Movie", then select "Save it to my hard drive", then "Advanced Options". There are a number of audio-only choices, each with its own options, as well as the ability to customize them further.

If you're using Vegas Pro, you click on "Render As" in the file menu, and similarly choose the output format and options. If you need the manual for Vegas Pro, you can download it here. Detailed rendering instructions are in Chapter 30 beginning on page 539.

PS. You can also select the audio track and choose "Open in Audio Editor" or "Open Copy in Audio Editor". As long as you have given the path to your editor (such as Adobe Audition) in Preferences.

  5. Use advanced versions in Studio and look for this like Pro version, if having Pro versions (again, what Vegas are you using?) and there are TABs for VIDEO and AUDIO settings, simply uncheck box that says include video (on top usually) , in this case you can encode AAC only for example. You get m4a or possibly MP4 container but with audio only in it, not sure now, I think you get M4a, audio container.

You can customize Vegas's templates a lot, not like in Premiere.

Also it helps what you need that audio for, someone might give you a possible right audio format idea.

  7. what are those audios for, again, different format has a different purpose usually
you might need AC3 , there is dedicated AC3 export template, you need that as elementary stream for DVD or BD
or AAC, you export MP4 (MainConcept avc) and uncheck "include video" in VIDEO TAB, you get AAC audio in M4a container
or mpeg1layerII audio for some reason, using MainConcept mpeg2 export template, using audio for old fashion mpeg2
    etc.

If you have Audacity, you can input the path to it (probably "C:\Program Files (x86)\Audacity\audacity.exe" - but it will depend on your system) in the Audio preferences in Vegas. Then you can select the audio track you want, right click on it and choose "Open Copy in Audio Editor" and it will save a copy of the track as a WAV file in the same folder as the source, and then it will open that file in Audacity. If all you're trying to do is export the file, you can simply close out of Audacity and the WAV file will still be there.

Note: if you're working with 5.1 surround sound, you can only save each "track" separately using this method - i.e. not all 6 channels in one file. And if you have more than one audio clip in a single track, you can only export one clip at a time - not the entire track. But if you're working with a stereo source, and only a single clip, this is probably the fastest way to export the audio to a WAV file.

If you want something other than a WAV file, or if you need to save 5.1 channels into a single file...
in short i have to use the render comand and select only the audio in the menu like the screenshot?

    thanks
As I said, if you're using Vegas Pro, the screens that will come up will look a little different from the screenshots I show from Vegas Movie Studio. But yes, the principle is the same. Just choose one of the audio-only templates for whatever format you need. There are a couple of Wave templates that will allow you to save 5.1 channels, as well as Dolby Digital (AC3). The AAC and OGG and other audio templates are stereo or mono only.

  9. yes, definitively, to further process that audio, that uncompressed PCM, wave, is the way to go or directly to load it from Vegas if possible,
if exporting wave then Render As/ Wave (Microsoft)
