    I'm thinking of getting a new Kaby Lake for encoding H.265 10-bit, but I'd like to hear from others who have already tried and tested the latest hardware.

    I currently have a Skylake, but doesn't support 10-bit HEVC encoding.

    On another note, how significant is the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit h/x264 and h/x265 encoding.

  2. if you have desktop, with bios update, you probably can just take out your skylake chip and put in a $45 kaby lake one to try it out:

    The top of the desktop consumer level line hd 630 is about double the price:
