I have 3 Sony blu-ray players hooked up to 2 Sony TVs and 1 LG TV. The cheaper older players, the S5100 and S5200, both display raw images. The S6500 however just displays the broken image icon and moves onto the next image in the directory.

I feel like there's some setting I screwed up maybe in the S6500, I could swear it used to play the raw images. The actual images are from Sony cameras, .arw extension, in case that matters.

I'm using Serviio Pro 1.8 with Windows 10 64-bit on the PC server. Serviio profile for the S6500 and S5200 is Sony BDP-Sx100 (2013). The even older S5100 profile is Sony BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100 (2010). The TV itself will display the .arw images if I start the DLNA server through the smart TV function, but they won't show through the Sony S6500 player. I tried Plex and the .arw images are just skipped over, they don't even show in the list.

What did I miss? I can't believe the newer more expensive player isn't capable of displaying raw images.

Thanks for any help, this has been driving me crazy to figure out.

This happens because there some image formats that are not supported by this Sony blu ray player. I think that the image format you are using is not compatible with bdp-s6500 that's why it get failed to display it properly. Before using blu ray player you have to check which formats are supported by this blu ray model of Sony. But still don't worry . There is Sony Raw drivers which is used to display raw images/raw data. You can download it from official Sony website. After installing it your images will be properly shown. Check Sony Bdp-s6500 Manual for details.

While it is true that the specs for Sony blu-rays say "JPEG, GIF and PNG" as the only supported files, it says that for all 3 players that I have... for the BDP-S5100, S5200 and S6500. Yet the raw images display perfectly on the older cheaper Sony players, they display on the S5100 and S5200. I'm just trying to understand why.

I work with Sony's raw images often in other graphic programs, so I've long ago installed the necessary drivers needed, that is definitely not the issue.
