    Are you talking deinterlacing?

I used to use Handbrake. The first four series of the new Doctor Who were shot as progressive PAL, except the end credits which were interlaced PAL. The way the credits are aligned, in order to get all the frames deinterlaced I had to set the sensitivity so high that Handbrake wound up deinterlacing almost every frame in every episode.

You could set handbrake to literally deinterlace every frame if you wanted.

That is what you're asking about, right?

The very best results will be achieved by not converting at all. Since you don't seem to care about menus in the DVD's, you could go straight to Mpeg2 files using Vob2Mpg or DVDVob2Mpg. The file sizes would be fairly large, close to the original DVD size, which will vary from about 4gb up to nearly 8gb.

This is probably not what you want, since most people are converting to MP4 or MKV files and compressing the video at the same time. But it is without question the best way to preserve the original quality.

Converting to MP4 or MKV from commercial NTSC DVD-Video, I'd say start with the HQ 480p 30 Surround or the Matroska H264 MKV 480p 30 setting. In the Video tab, change to Framerate same as source, Constant Framerate, Encoder Preset Slow, Encoder Tune Film, Encoder Profile High, Level 4.1. Set Constant Quality to 18.

Some of my equipment can't handle 5.1 AAC, so I have to make sure to have stereo audio in the Audio tab. That may not apply to you.

Once you have things set as you want, make (add) your own preset.

Edit: And if you are asking about interlacing as ndjamena brought up, this can be turned on in the Filters tab.

MakeMKV simply puts the entire movie in a MKV folder - no change of quality. Quick and simple

  5. ndjamena yes those lines in the picture when there is movement , I set to high Profile and Decomb and that seems to work good but yes perfect quality probably is only when you burn as just an ISO file
