Hi Everyone,
I apologize for my question, but I suffer from mixture of OCD, anxiety, and computer illiteracy.
I recently started creating videos. They range in size from 7 MB - 500 MB, they are in WMV, and they have multiple aspect ratios (720 x 480, 640 x 480, among others.)
The videos comprised of still shots are in 640 x 480, and the videos that are comprised of smaller videos are in 720 x 480.
I wanted to burn a disc, in order to mail them to family members. That might be an obsolete method for sharing videos, but I'm old and my family members are even older, so asking them to do more than to use a DVD player, would be a reach.
I bought a 5-pack of Maxwell DVD-R 120 min up to/max 16X 4.27 GB
I put all of my videos in an AVC and burned them onto the disc. NTSC playback
On playback, the 720 x 480 videos looked great, but the 640 x 480 videos were stretched-out sideways.
I searched forums for many hours, but the language in the answers was way above my head.
Then, in one thread, out of nowhere, someone wrote "DVDs only playback in 720 x 480."
If that's the answer, then I can live with it, I guess.
Then I played around with converting my 640p into 720p. I didn't burn them yet, because when I played them on my VLC, they looked the same.
I don't know anything anymore. My brain is a little scrambled right now.
But if someone could explain how to burn 640 x 480 and 720 x 480 videos onto the same disc, without distortion, then that would be appreciated.
Or, if someone could explain how to view the outcome of the videos, before it's physically burned, that would be good. On my older computer, when I burned a dvd, it would also be in a file (maybe the name was NTSC or something, I don't remember)
After I burned this last dvd, I now have a file called "videos ready to be written", but when I play those back on VLC, there's nothing wrong with them.
Sincerely, Tutor

If those receiving these DVDs will play them with a stand-alone hardware DVD player, then the files, folders, video and audio must comply with the spec for DVD video discs. See What is DVD
I suggest AVStoDVD to convert non-compliant files for DVD compatibility and author them. Letter boxing, pillar boxing, or cropping may be needed for some videos to conform to the requirement that all DVD video must be 16:9 or 4:3.Last edited by usually_quiet; 7th Jan 2017 at 21:22.

Hi guys,
I decided that burning DVD's is outdated.
I can send them links to all of my videos, and that should be enough.
Some of the links expire, some don't, but it's not like these videos will be passed down from generation to generation.
I really appreciate you're input, and I'm sure that it's all accurate, but this stuff is a little beyond me.
However, a I've been grappling with another problem, which you might know the answer to...
In order to display my videos on my TV, I bought an HDMI cord. My tv is not smart (it is a Sharp Plasma), so HDMI is my only option.
Everything is working splendidly but for one thing...
All of the edges of the TV display (when it's mirroring my pc), are about 1-2 inches too small to house what shows on my pc.
In other words, the top half and left half of the icon in the upper left corner of my desktop, is not visible on my TV, whereas it is fully visible on my pc.
I'm leaning towards it being a TV issue, not a PC issue, but I've looked everywhere on my TV menues, and I can't find the proper item. I found a position adjuster, but it moves the entire screen up or down, left or right. I can't shrink it in on both sides. I tried different tv resolutions, but that doesn't shrink the screen. I've also tried the 'normal, strech, zoom 1, zoom 2, and zoom 3' on the TV, but at 'normal' (which is the smallest) the problem still isn't corrected.
There's a zoom option to adjust the tv display by way of the pc, but that only makes it bigger, not smaller.
Any insight would be appreciated.

The videos are already finished, so I can't edit them at this point.
I've seen threads for overscan on Sharp Aquos (which I think is mine)
Menu > System*Options*> ViewOption*> View Mode > Dot...
but I don't even have System options, I just have options. And there's no view option when I go into options.
In my tv, under options, I have AQUOS LINK setup, audio only, input select (greyed out), output select, color system (greyed out), digital caption setup (greyed out), digital caption info (greyed out), program display, fav. Ch, operation lockout, demo mode, identification, and software update.
Is overscan in there? I've looked but am i missing something? -
For many TVs, the setting which turns off overscan is available via whatever button on the remote control changes the aspect ratio. Is there such a button on the remote control? Is there an option called "Dot by Dot"?

On the remote control?
Okay... I have to find the specific remote for that tv.
I'm using sort of a universal remote.
I'm sure I'll find the tv one, and look for that feature.
So what you're saying is that there's a feature on the remote, that can not be accessed/adjusted via the main menu of the tv. Fair enough...I'll write back shortly. -
Okay, here's what I did...
I give all credit to usually_quiet.
I'll write it down in case someone else has the same issue.
On the remote for the tv, there is a button "view mode". The options are "stretch, zoom, s. stretch, and side bar"
There is no "dot by dot."
However, when I enabled the HDMI to extend my pc to the tv, and then pushed the display mode, it showed "dot by dot" as one of the options.
Problem solved
I don't see a place to checkmark best answer to usually_quiet, but his was definitely the correct answer
