Processing XviD/avi files, using VirtualDub 1.10.5-FilterMod it states that to get smart rendering to work you have to change options/preferences/avi, thus:
'Prefer internal video decoders over installed third party codecs.'
    - else you must specifically load the file using 'Files of type' > 'Audio/video interleave (*.avi *.divx)'.
I found that changing the preferences still doesn't allow Smart Rendering to work using the default 'All media types..' from the file menu - it must be specified using the above.
I'm either doing something wrong or I would like a way of having VirtualDub defaulting to allowing smart rendering to work when I drag an avi file onto the shortcut.

  2. you can remove high priority from ffmpeg driver, go to cch_input.ini and change "select = 1" to "select = 0"

    Many thanks.
I mistakenly jumped to https://sourceforge.net/p/vdfiltermod/wiki/direct_copy/ and took that as the fix.

  4. VirtualDub doesn't include a Divx/Xvid decoder (only MJPEG and DV) so "prefer internal decoders" doesn't make any difference for them.

If you want VD internal driver to remain at top, change to select = 0
So whatever 'driver', depending on its 'priority', communicates with the 'codec' that was used to create the video to load into Vdub, but the ffmpeg driver, while being able to open the video, blocks operation of Smart Rendering somehow?

And if you could, please use the simplest language to explain..

  6. I have trouble reading your question but anyway

    vdfiltermod has a pre-installed plugin cch_input.vdf
it by default (priority=1) takes responsibility to decode everything from avi (with some exceptions)
but it still does not implement all features required by direct copy and smart rendering
so you have to use different decoding driver (audio-video interleaved)

ffmpeg driver provided by cch_input.vdf is able to decode almost everything (in good days) and for smart rendering in limited situations.

audio-video interleaved provides features for direct copy, but depends on third party codecs to uncompress video data.
Unfortunately there is no "third party codec" that works correctly in all cases.
