    Use a faster preset for x265. Buy a more powerful CPU with AVX2 support.

    Many encoding noobs seem to think that since HEVC means "high effiency video coding" it'll encode faster somehow. It means nothing of the sort. High efficiency here means high efficiency compression algorithms. It'll take longer to encode than AVC in general.

    There are no magic codecs, and each new generation of formats/codecs means more of those nice quality settings. I'm of the opinion that you're probably going to get better quality results using a codec which may be technically worse but whose settings you understand. I've seen quite large HEVC video files that obviously were made by people who didn't understand the options. I could have done better using xvid, and I'm no guru.
