    This is not anything new, only new to me, as a recent Fire-TV purchaser. I would have liked to have done it this way, but Oh Well . . . . Maybe this article is overwrought, but I don't find the Amazon policies acceptable. There are a number of other good streaming platform options for running Kodi that won't come with this baggage. HTPC always remains an option as well, though it would not be necessary to go that far. For many, a simpler, dedicated set top device will be just the ticket.

    Just use a remote that doesn't have the microphone. You can get a dedicated FireTV remote or maybe a Harmony + FLIRC. Although a RaspPi3 running LibreELEC would do the job for less if you went that route.

    Well, you can put some tape over the mic easily enough . . . but that article implied a possibility for logging one's usage of the device (whatever you choose to access -- paid and sanctioned or otherwise), even if the voice control feature is never used. In regard to how most people seem to be using Kodi, that would be a very bad prospect.
