  1. Ok, here's the deal I want to join this great avi of Lord of the Rings into one big avi file. However , when I go into virtualdub and try to join the file it tells me "error cannot join files: audio stream is of different sampling rates.". This is my issue I need to know how to get these to files joined. Help.

Extract the audio from each AVI by loading them into VirtualDub and selecting File->Save as WAV. Covert the sample rate of the wav file(s) using a sample rate converter like SSRC (available at doom9.org). Then mux the converted audio back into each AVI and then join them.

Note: When you multiplex the audio in the AVI, be sure you recompress it back to how it was/how you want it or else it will just be raw PCM, which will make the filesize larger.

  4. if it were me i would fix the audio right in VirtualDub and not seperate the audio and video since it seems like an extra step that is not needed.

open VDub and set the video for direct stream copy and set the audio for full processing mode.

now go into the conversion dialog forund in the audio pull down menu. set the properties you want your audio to have as far as sampleing rate and channels. open the compression now and set up the compression you want to use.

once this is setup just open the files one at a time and do a save avi to create a new set of files that all have the exact same audio properties.
    peace out,

Yes, you can do it that way also, but I've had inferior results using Virtual Dub's built in sample rate converter compared to that of SSRC.
