I am from Canada Region 1 and i ordered some burned DVD concerts from Europe Region 2. I though they would work on my computer but they do not. i tried them on my laptop dont work there also. i tried them on my sharp BR DVD player don't work there. only way i can see anything is if i look at the files on my computer and play each video file with Media Player classic. I have like 100 questions how to fix them but slow but sure how do i tell what region the dvds are to start with and i dont see how any program will tell me what region they are if they dont play any help is appreciated if i am not in the right Thread let me know thanks

What "files" do you see?
Home-made DVDs do not have a region code.

thanks i did not know that. so the dvds should play on any computer any where. maybe the dvds were not burned right

I doubt they'll play on your standalone DVD player but they should play on your computer through MPC. To play DVDs on MPC I double-click on the VIDEO_TS.IFO. Are you doing that?

Obviously as manono hinted to....if you don't see anything like a VIDEO_TS file or folder in the disc contents....it's not a "DVD".

when i put the dvd in my computer it asks me what dvd program i want to play it on no matter what program i choose it will not work (it will try to play but jest a black screen) so i go in windows explorer click on VTS and it does work but this is first time i seen this normally it jest plays when you choose a program to play it

Note that it is not only about regions but also about NTSC vs PAL. Not every hardware (player/TV) in North America can play PAL content. PCs should, though. So maybe it is not authored properly (like the others said).

Probably just a strange authoring job.....it is most likely a direct computer copy of a DVD recorder recorded disc. Some recorders have STRANGE authoring methods.
