Windows 10 64-bit
Premiere Pro 2015 CC
16gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS (old card, but it's hardy and works well)
Everything is up to date.
I was in the middle of editing yesterday, and suddenly Premiere crashed (which seldom happens anymore). An error message flashed on the screen too quickly for me to see it. When I restarted Premiere, all of my footage was white. Also, Premiere changed the readout in the bin as 30.00fps, but the footage is 23.976 fps. When I check each file in Properties, it is correct.
I am using m2v and/or mpg. I've been using some version of Premiere since 5.1 back in the day (oldster!), and I've never experienced this before. I've lost an entire day trying to figure this out. Here's what I've done to try to fix it.
Lots of reading. Lots of places, including here.
I read here about Mercury Engine Software in Rendering. I thought to change or delete that, but it's greyed out, so I can't do anything with it.
I also read at Adobe forums that this issue is a "thing" and nobody knows how to fix it. I hope that has changed.
I've rolled my video drivers back. Nothing changed.
I updated them back to where they are. Nothing changed.
I uninstalled/reinstalled Premiere THREE TIMES.
The first time, nothing changed, and everything moved really slowly. Also, when I pressed Play, nothing in the sequence played. (I dragged some audio & video down there just to see)
The second time, nothing changed. Still white.
The third time, I cleaned my registry and deleted my preferences, and when I opened Premiere for the first time and imported footage, it was fine.
Then I added a Loop button to my monitor screens, and everything turned white again.
I also imported various other formats, i.e., avi, mov, mp4, and even divx, which I know Premiere doesn't like. Interestingly, the mov will play, the mp4 will play, the avi's will variably play and not play, and I get a msg that the files are either unsupported (not true) or corrupted (not true). I don't get it---these are videos that I recently exported using available, workable codecs; they play just fine in all the standalone players I have, and they all played here before yesterday.
Can you help me?
Thank you.

How can we help you with the lack of details (other than listing your editor and some basic hardware info)?
For a start,
Post detailed codec & sequence info.
Troubleshoot by starting minimally with known-good material and basic sequences.
Sounds like you have many codec/format options: rule out the (edit-friendly) good ones.
Clear out your render caches.
Triple check that all your drives are not corrupt.

Thanks for your quick reply. What details do you need? I'm using Premiere Pro 2015 CC v9.0.0 247 build.
Here's an example of the properties of the footage I've been using:
File Path: I:\New Hannibal\Hannibal.S01E01.mpg
File Size: 441.56 MB
Image Size: 720 x 406
Frame Rate: 23.976
Total Duration: 00:42:59:00
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
File Path: F:\TV\Hannibal\Hannibal.S03E01.Antipasto.mov
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 1.67 GB
Image Size: 1912 x 1072
Frame Rate: 23.976
Total Duration: 00:43:04:09
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
MOV's aren't even supposed to work in Premiere on a PC, but I imported it for curiosity's sake. I don't want to edit with it.
I've been a video editor for 17 years now and have actually been a member here since the early 'oughts. I just checked my profile and none of my older posts are there, so oy. They were all about Avisynth and TMPGenc anyway--which I don't use anymore.
I have been troubleshooting. That's why I'm here. Premiere is so temperamental!
I have cleared all my caches.
I cleared all of my prefs as well.
I usually use only lossless AVI (Lagarith and UT), but this time I'm using a basic mpeg, which has worked not just "okay" but "really well" in the past.
I listed the other formats to illustrate that I had tried different codecs just to see what would happen.
If you mean my HDDs, no, they're in good shape. I actually vid on two specific drives, both of which I defragged (yet another thing I tried to do to see if it would help).
What other info do you need? I'm as bewildered as you think I am! -
Some thoughts for your troubleshooting checklist (apologies for not having the answer) --
White srceen is sometimes a codec issue.
Inability to use CUDA may suggest a video card going bad.
MOV files work fine in Premiere if you have the quicktime core installed. You don't need the player.
Win 10 has had some major changes fairly recently -- which is related to the next item --
If you have Premiere 2015 CC, you are on a subscription but are several versions back. Current version is CC2017, 11.xxxxx. Any particular reason you aren't keeping it up to date? -
Thank you for answering.
I thought about codecs, but didn't come to any conclusions, especially when I threw a MOV in there and Premiere not only opened it but it scrubbed well. Huh. Same with divx, which usually gives PPro a nervous breakdown. (I didn't remember installing any QT codecs, etc., but I must have, so I was very surprised)
Video card failure has been my default assumption, although this is the first evidence of it that I have observed. A new card is my "surprise but I know anyway" Christmas present this year, so this entire exercise may be moot within a week. Still good to know, though, right?
Yes, I am on subscription, but I found that was I mightily distracted and couldn't stay on task so I moved my entire editing setup to a computer that needs an act of God to connect it to the internet. I *can* but I found that I doubled my output when I wasn't tempted by Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Chat. I guess that'll be my new goal--update the program. *sigh*
I have posted this question in several forums, and someone at Adobe answered me this morning. Although I had already done almost everything they suggested, I hadn't *renamed* the source files directory. Right now, I can see all of the files, but I haven't tried to render anything yet. This is what they told me, in case it will help someone else--
Clear all media cache.
FAQ: How to clean media cache files |Adobe Community (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2152942)
Rename top folder the footage is in and relink.
See if that will work.
Right now, it *does* work. When I render and it still works, I won't come back to this thread. If it screws up again, I'll be back with news.
Thank you again.
