You can see if Quicksync will work with a directshow capture device by selecting "Video Capture Device" instead of "Display Capture" and selecting you're laptop's webcam as the capture device. If it can encode the webcam stream, it should encode a direct show capture card as well. I am under the impression that they are the same thing, except with different colorspaces and resolutions. I would be really interested to see if it works for you, thanks.

is there an 64bit version of regsvr32 ?
I keep getting the same error messages:
"xyz may not be compatible with the version of windows that you're running. checking if the module is compatible with an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of regsvr32.exe"
or
"the module xyz was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found. make sure xyz is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again." -
that didn't work, tried this morning. virtualdub does not see any qsv drivers. i believe the driver has to be registered first, then something like graphstudio will see it and then we can build a capture graph. i can finally replace my hdpvr.grf with this one if i can figure out how to install them.
the dshow drivers are under the "Intel Media SDK H.264 Encoder" and "Intel Media SDK MP4 Muxer" terms respectfully. but to get to that info, you first have to register your name and other personal info in order to download and install the media studio, which i will not do. but obs appears to have the drivers, its just a matter of getting them registered, i think, but i'm having a little trouble with it. -
this explains how to do it (page 11) if you download the media kit. maybe you can do that and upload the two dshow files.

The OBS Forum administrator seems to suggest that it should work:

Are you sure you selected "Video Capture Device" instead of "Display Capture"? If it doesn't work, then I guess I'll wait to buy an i3-7300 with a gtx 1050. Ouch that will be expensive
edit: Here's another forum post where the guy claims that he is able to record his xbox one through a capture card with OBS using quick sync, phew

I'm looking to capture through graphedit / graphstudio since I need that to create the initial .grf file that my custom app needs.
