POSSIBLY the original video was encoded with a non~mod-4 width or height, and the decoder used /called by TMPGenc has problems with that.

    EDIT: the image says '714x480'.

Could be but I work... as I re-encode the video (into MP4) without changing the dimensions. :/

That reply didn't make a whole lot of sense but I believe Marsia Mariner is right about the cause. Can't you just use MkvToMp4 to convert to MP4 without reencoding?

An alternative is to either add black or resize to some Mod4 resolution, one such as 716x480. I hope someone set a SAR for it or it'll play in the wrong aspect ratio. It's most likely from a DVD source with the black bars removed. That's what you get for downloading garbage from the internet.
    what do you think?
    I think it's not a TMPGEnc problem.

  6. I see maybe a filter or a codec?
the thing is that I don't use that version of TMPGEnc in order to convert videos I only use it to save out the frames cause I can modify the size, frame rate and others.

You can save out frames using your player (most, anyway) and do whatever you like to them in a picture editor.

    FWIW, and IIRC:

that type of image distortion was somewhat-common with WMV7, WMV8, and "DivX 3".

The workaround that I always used was either resize to mod(4) or crop to mod(4) dimensions.

BUT it's also possible that the problem doesn't happen, IF you feed TMPGenc with an Avisynth script which calls FFVideoSource()

Letting TMPGenc read the source files via DirectShow OR through Avisynth's DirectShowSource() is not a good idea anyway.
But that's what I did, when I was a total n00b and hadn't started to read Videohelp
