I feel like a jerk but I just got a new laptop w/ w10, put in a password and the next day couldn't remember it. Can anyone recommend a good, simple, safe, cheap (preferably free) software to reset my win 10 admin password. Thanks.

Try this but you have to have another computer available to make a usb drive or cd.
It's text based and not for the vain of hard!

Edit: i asumed that you use a local account..

This seems to be how to reset you Microsoft passward for the desktop I'm on, not win 10 login for my laptop.

I am, but the newest version of this bootdisk is almost 3 yrs. old and doesn't mention win10 anywhere. I'm a little reluctant to try it.
    Thanks though.

The database where the windows login credentials are stored (SAM) is still the same as older versions so it should work with windows 10

As you just used the computer for only one day, there should be no important files on the hard drive. I recommend you perform a factory reset.

Try removing the battery that is on the motherboard.
I did this for a friend that bought a used computer at an
Auction. It asked for a password when starting up
Looked it up online, unplugged computer removed the battery and waited
A few minutes reinstalled the battery and started it back up.

If a local account password is forgotten, you can blank it with this software:

But this free giveaway expired two days ago.
As regards to clearing BIOS password, you can use spotmau boot cd.

Above software says it can find rar passwords. I am curious how the above software can find rar passwords. Does the software just randomly try a bunch of passwords? That would seem to take years to do.

Yes, that's what I ended up doing. Took about 4 hrs. but it worked. Was kind of looking for something simpler and faster, but it's done now. Thanks.
