  1. I don't see a way with this program to reverse the 2:3 pulldown.

XMedia Recode detects the video as 29.97 FPS but it should be 23.976.

How can I convert this, properly?

If it's an NTSC DVD then it should be 29.97fps But I understand what you're saying. I don't use the program so maybe someone else will chime in and explain how (or if) you can perform an IVTC when using XMediaRecode. What choices does it give in the Deinterlacing section?

I'd use an AviSynth script with the IVTC as part of the script and open it in my encoder of choice (in my case, RipBot264 for making MP4 or MKV). Giving your intended output format might help.

Thanks. XMedia Recode (XR) has some de-interlacing filters but this is a DVD film source. So, it's probably just using the repeat flag for 29.97 NTSC support and it should be trivial to apply IVTC.

I tried ffmpeg using pullup and got the same, weird choppy video. Hmm...

Are you saying you checked the deinterlacing options and there wasn't anything that will just IVTC it? Is your source hard or soft telecined? If you don't know then perhaps cut a 10-second or so section from the DVD and upload it here for us to have a look. I just opened a soft telecined DVD source in RipBot264 and after analyzing it, got it ready to encode at 23.976fps for MP4. No IVTC was even necessary. But it uses AviSynth and DGIndex.

There are other options - encoding programs that use AviSynth scripts that will allow for an IVTC and then encode it for you. I'm referring to such programs as RipBot264 and MeGUI and Hybrid. I'm sure there are more.
