  1. hey, I need to convert video files to avi files with indeo 4 codec. I am working with macromedia director 6. I only know it definetly supports AVI Indeo 4 file format. I have to resize 640x480 videos into 1280*960. I am using AE to resize it but I dont know in which format I can export it again. Any formats I tried, like wmv, mpeg2, ect are not working in that program. It is a very old program... Any help is much appreciated!

Why are you trying to use Director6? We live in 2016 - you could/should be using Adobe Flash Builder CC 2015+ or similar.

  3. Its a 4 GB big project that just needs to be adjusted. its about 120 dir files. If I would rebuild it I would do it in unity, cos its like a 2D game. But it would take a lot more time and I dont make the decisions anyway! They want it like that...

    Sheesh!

Well, prep your clips as uncompressed AVIs of the intended rez & framerate, save them to a storage drive.
Then fire up a virtual PC of XP-era, which includes Indeo codecs out of the box.
Recompress to Indeo-based clips, stored to that same external drive.
Then bring back up your regular OS setup.

    Author. Done.

  5. Its even worse than XP... I had to virtualize win98! That means no guest additions, that means no ext hard drive! But I managed to use a NAS with FTP and FZ on win98. So Ive come so far arldy... I just would like to compress the files into indeo on my main computer cos it runs much faster and it has the storage to hold x videos in an uncompressed file format! Which program would you recommend to use on win98 to compress those files to Indeo?

  6. I just fired up an XP VM and it shows Intel Indeo 3.2 and 4.5 as available VFW encoders. Both are contained in c:\windows\system32\qcap.dll. I don't know if you can copy that to a newer version of windows and register it.

But surely there must be some better codec that will work with your software. MJPEG? DV?

  7. I'm not gonna test this, but you can probably get Indeo working on your system
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indeo
Although Indeo video is not officially supported by Windows Vista and Windows 7, simply entering the following into the command prompt might enable the playback of Indeo encoded video: regsvr32 ir50_32.dll

Me too, except it's Version 5, ir50_32.dll and ir50_qcx.dll. Don't know where they came from (K-Lite maybe)

  8. I just checked and ir50_32.dll is in c:\windows\syswow64\ on this Win7 system. I also see it on a Win10 system. So registering it should work.

I just enabled on the win7 (64 bit system) with "regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\ir50_32.dll" and it now shows up as Indeo video 5.10 in VirtualDub (32 bit version). If you're running 32 bit Win7 it should be in system32 instead of syswow64.

I just noticed that qcap.dll is in that folder too.

Ok, but didn't the OP wan't INDEO V4? NOT 5?

    RE:VMs
Don't know what you are doing wrong but it isn't hard to set up a Win98SE vm (I've got a couple archived) - one that allows you to use any drive already mounted on the host as an additional drive in the client. Virtual PC & vmware have been able to do this for years (may need to install those integration drivers first).

Yes, but if he enables the Indeo 5 VFW codec on the newer computer his software will probably be able to use it.

And looking in the SYSWOW64 folder I see ir32_32.dll, ir32.41.dll, and ir50_32.dll. So it looks like all of them are available, just not registered.

  11. First of all Id like to thank you for your input and help! I appreciat it! Indeo 5 works, too! But the way is very inconvinient... I tried to register ir50_32.dll but my win10 64bit system throws an errorcode 0x8000ffff "DLLRegisterServer".

So I resize the video in AE and export it as AVI uncompressed. I copy it into a XP Machine (virtualized) and compress it into Indeo 5 via virtualdub. Than I copy it into the win98 machine and put it into director 6. I can import it and I can play it once and for some unknown reason the program crashes after (guessing memory overflow or whatever, win98 in virtualbox runs pretty bad). According to a german webseite director 6 supports quicktime and AVI. They dont say which codecs though...

Maybe there is a way to take the entire project into Adobe Director without any big losses?! I dont know. I also tried to copy director 6 into the XP machine, but I am getting an error it needs 10mb virtual memory. I rather think its due to the fact thats not registred properly in the windoof registry!

Vm: I am using virtualbox and according to their site u need the guest addition installed to use USB. But those work from xp on and not with w98. And even with xp i am having a hard time to mount that WD drive...

Edit: Got it running on XP, which is much better to work with. It was a problem with the virtual memory...

Why don't you just use a network share? Share (read/write) a folder on the new computer, map it as a drive on the VM client. Both computers will be able to read/write the shared folder. You can even share the root of the USB drive.

  13. You need to run regsvr32.exe from an elevated command prompt, and you need to run the one from syswow64.

Simplest way to do it correctly: browse to c:\windows\syswow64. Right click on cmd.exe and run as administrator. Now register the dll.

Ups, yes you are correct... That works! thanks mate!

I am using a network folder now as well. I finally can start with actually working!

    Thanks a lot...
