  1. Hi,

I am looking for the best software to split a MP4 or MKV into 2 or more files without re-encode.

The program can be paid or free, but I would like to have a GUI to select split/cut frames.

Can anyone provide me with some of the top applications out there to do this and also what they recommend?

    Thanks...

Three possibilities. But with any you will need to cut on a 'I' frame, or you will need to re-encode, at least at the cut point, so frame accurate cuts are not usually possible. Others here may have better suggestions.

    MP4Tools / MP4Joiner / MP4Splitter
    H264TS_Cutter
    AVIDemux

It is possible with ffmpeg to encode just the part before the I frame but after the cut point but getting the specs to match the rest of the film so it can be put back together without glitches is the main problem. I have had great luck in doing it manually through all the steps but an automated version still eludes me.

  4. Video To Video Converter has a cutting/splitting function with a preview. There's a portable version you can download, unzip and run. I think the installer comes with adware. You don't have to install the adware, but sometimes it's easy to do so without realising.

For MKV use MKVMergeGui - select the split point

You should use Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate not ByteCopy. ByteCopy only can split BLu-ray and DVD. Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate not only can split Blu-ray and DVD but MKV, MP4, etc video. I have never used Brorsoft. But I goolged it and found these two software have similar interface.
