I am using a newer version of PotPlayer. I don't see how to advance to the next file/movie by clicking on something. In an older version I could do this.

Assuming all of the files are in the same folder, I believe you simply click the >| button (goes to the next chapter / next file). At least it did when I last used it, and it's the same way I progress through files with other media players (such as MPC-HC).

So this is on the keyboard, not on the screen? is there a way to put something on the screen to advance to the next file?

  4. No, it's a button on PotPlayer skin/window (at the bottom of it, where all its buttons and counter are). To go to the next file rigth click with your mouse ">|" button. If you left click you'll go 5 secs forward (or to the next chapter probably).

The clue is in the bubble that pops up when you hover over the ">|" button.
Left click: seeks through the playing file
Right Click: Goes to next file
