  1. Hello,
I'm trying to play (or convert to a playable format) a Sirius MovieCD ( see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MovieCD ), but not having much luck. I know the codec is ancient but is there really no way at all to converting it into a different format? I have tried pretty much all I can think of, with no results. At best, I was able to play the file and hear the audio, but no video whatsoever. I don't know if it would be possible through something like VirtualBox, that's the only thing I haven't tried yet.
Any other suggestions? I have access to computers with Windows XP, Vista and 7 on them.

According to your linked Wikipedia article, it should be sufficient to install the VfW codec using the awarent.exe available on such a disc, afterwards it should be possible to convert the video using VfW based tools (like VirtualDub)...

    Mirrors: moviecodec.com / MPlayer HQ

Oh, I didn't even notice it in the Wikipedia. I will try it, thx.

Update: awarent.exe is not on the disc for some reason, only SETUP.EXE which will not run, but I was able to download awarent.exe from an FTP site, however it just says I am running the wrong version of Windows...

Codec is proprietary and contained within the player not system installed

The package is for win nt pre xp, no updates beyond this point

You'll need to get hold of an older system running win nt (pre 2000 version) and record the video output via vga connection.

Or else if the files not to big you could upload it to a share drive and I'll do the conversion for you as I have a lot of older systems in storage ... might be worth a few bob in 50 years as retro's

Just had a busy week running a pub for race day

  7. Really? That would be great, if you have the time and energy. The file is 466 Mb in size, approx. 40 mins long.
I am wanting to convert it to highest quality NTSC MPG (to put on DVD). Let me know if you would be able to help me with that?
