It occurred to me that I'd rather store all my movies on a HDD and be able to watch them (on my TV) from that instead of digging through a big pile of DVDs to find the one I want. Is a DVR what I need for that? I don't care anything about a tuner, just want to be able to put my DVDs on a storage device and play directly from it.
    Thanks

No. You need a dvd drive for you computer. Then just rip the dvds with anydvd, dvdfab, etc.

Does your TV have a built in media player? What containers and codecs does it support?
