I have a camcorder video that I'd like to adjust (contrast/brightness/sharpness) and then post on my web site.
I've loaded it into VLC and used the filters and it does an acceptable job. However, I haven't been able to export (or save) a copy of the edited version.
The only suggestion I got from a Google search was to use the "Media/Save to Playlist file" command. I did this and it did just what I expected - saved a playlist that included the VLC adjustments. It played the modified video in VLC but I can't use this on my web site.
I also tried "VSDC Free Video Editor", "MovaviVideoEditor" and "FreeColorVideo" but I couldn't get good results.
Can anyone suggest a good program to accomplish my task? (I'd prefer a free program but I'll consider a paid program if I can try an evaluation version to make sure it gives me acceptable results.)

What format (Codec, video and audio) does the camera output?
I'd try AviDemux.Last edited by redwudz; 17th Oct 2016 at 12:07.

Thank-you redwudz,
I actually have AviDemux and didn't realize that it could adjust video attributes. I'm trying it and having some success. I'll keep working to get it right.
However, I'm trying to insert the modified video into my web site. I'm using the HTML5 video tag and as I understand it, there are only 2 video formats that are supported in all modern browsers (MP4 and WebM). Therefore, I was looking for a program that could modify the video and output to the MP4 format. I don't see a way to use AviDemux to output to MP4. Is there any other program that will do this? (I could convert the AVI output to MP$ but this would require re-rendering the video and lose quality) -
for avidemux, you would set format => MP4
If you adjust anything such as color, brightness, sharpness etc.. it requires re-encoding anyways if you want to make it "stick" (ie. permanent .) When you manipulated it in VLC, those are just player options. You can't embed those options on a website. You have to "bake" those changes into the video, which requires re-encoding. So if you're going to do it, do it once instead of incurring loss many times . -
OK. Now I feel a little foolish. It was obvious but I ignored the "output format" of the AviDemux interface. I believe that this will do the job for me.
Thank-you for the suggestions and thank-you for being "gentle" in leading me to the Output Format option.
Cheers,

I'm making good progress adjusting my video but I'm stumped on one item.
I'd like my output file size to be a little smaller.
I'm using MPEG4 ASP (FF) output codec.
I gone into it's configuration under "Rate Control". I see File size tolerance (default 8000), Quantizer Compression (default 0.50) and Quantizer Blur (default 0.50). I've adjusted all of these downward but the output file size (and quality) remain unchanged. I know that I have to change the bit rate to make a smaller file size but I don't see how to do this.
Can someone point me in the right direction? -
MPEG4 ASP isn't compatible with web or streaming
You would use video => MPEG4 AVC (libx264) , audio => AAC , format => MP4 -
